Walk-In Tub Cost in Dallas, TX (2026)

Last reviewed Reviewed by the Walk-In Shower Quotes editorial team 3 min read 10 sources

Short answer

A walk-in tub in Dallas typically costs $3,500 to $9,900 installed in 2026, based on Fixr's national prices with the installation labor adjusted for Dallas-Fort Worth plumber wages from the BLS. Most of the price is the tub itself, so jets, a wide door or a second seat move the total far more than local labor does.

Key facts

  • BLS May 2025: the median plumber wage in the Dallas-Fort Worth-Arlington metro was $29.45 an hour, about 4% below the $30.67 national median.[1]
  • Fixr (2026): walk-in tub installation costs $3,500 to $10,000 nationally, and installation labor alone usually runs $1,000 to $3,500.[3]
  • Angi lists Dallas plumbers at $80 to $120 an hour and electricians at $80 to $105 an hour (July 2026).[4]

The tub you choose sets most of the bill. Fixr's national installed prices by type[3] apply in Dallas almost as is; our labor adjustment takes about 1% off each:

Walk-in tub typeNational installed range[3]

Hydrotherapy or whirlpool$4,000 to $12,000
Tub and shower combination$3,200 to $10,000

Wheelchair accessible$4,500 to $12,000
Two-seater$6,000 to $20,000
Luxury$8,000 to $30,000+

Angi does not publish a Dallas walk-in tub page, so there is no local published figure to compare.

How we got this number

Fixr gives a national installed range of $3,500 to $10,000 and says installation labor usually costs $1,000 to $3,500[3]. We adjusted only that labor piece.

Setting a walk-in tub is plumbing work, so we used one trade here: plumbers, pipefitters and steamfitters. Their May 2025 median hourly wage was $29.45 in the Dallas-Fort Worth-Arlington, TX metro area[1] and $30.67 nationally[2], a ratio of 0.96. Our sibling Dallas shower pages blend in tile setters; a walk-in tub needs little tile work.

Fixr national installed[3]$3,500$10,000
Installation labor[3]$1,000$3,500
Tub and other costs (national total minus labor)$2,500$6,500
Labor x 0.96$960$3,360
Dallas estimate, nearest $100$3,500$9,900

Labor is about 29% to 35% of the national totals, which is why the Dallas wage gap barely moves the price.

What changes the price in Dallas

Permits. Texas cities over 5,000 people must require a permit before plumbing work, apart from leak repairs and swaps of items like faucets, valves and toilets[7]. Dallas lists a $181 base fee for single-family alterations and $100 for each additional trade[5]. A jetted tub on a new circuit is two trades, or $281 by that table, plus a $15 technology fee for each document filed online[6]. Fixr's national permit range is $150 to $1,000[3].

Hourly rates. Angi lists Dallas plumbers at $80 to $120 an hour and electricians at $80 to $105[4]. Jetted and heated models need the electrician.

Ground-floor slabs. Nearly all new homes in the region sit on slabs[10], and a full walk-in tub is heavy. A tub on a slab floor is usually simpler than one upstairs over wood framing, where the floor may need checking.

Licensing. Dallas says plumbing contractors working on a home must be licensed under state law even when no permit is needed[8]. Check the license with the Texas State Board of Plumbing Examiners[9].

Questions to ask a Dallas contractor

  • Does the quote include removing the old tub, the permit and any electrical work?
  • Can my water heater fill this tub, or do I need a larger one?
  • Does the tub come with a quick-fill faucet and rapid-release drain?
  • Who handles warranty claims on the door seal, the installer or the maker?
  • Will a licensed plumber make the drain and supply connections?

When to call a pro

  • Any drain or supply change: a TSBPE-licensed plumber and a Dallas permit.
  • Jets, heaters or a new circuit: a licensed electrician.
  • An upstairs bathroom: have the floor checked before the tub is set.
  • Before you buy: confirm the tub fits through your doors and your water heater can fill it.

More questions

Is a walk-in tub cheaper in Dallas than elsewhere?

Only slightly. Dallas-Fort Worth plumbers earn about 4% less than the national median, per the BLS, but installation labor is only about a third of a walk-in tub's price. That works out to roughly 1% off national prices.

Do I need a permit to install a walk-in tub in Dallas?

Plan on one. Texas cities over 5,000 people must require a plumbing permit except for leak repairs and swapping items such as faucets, valves and toilets; a tub is not on that list. A jetted tub that needs a new circuit adds an electrical trade.

Is a walk-in tub or a walk-in shower cheaper in Dallas?

For standard models, usually the tub. Our Dallas estimates are $3,500 to $9,900 for a walk-in tub and $4,300 to $14,300 for a walk-in shower, before luxury or two-seat tubs.
